Josh Hart congratulates Landry Shamet on re-signing with the Knicks

The New York Knicks made a notable signing on Thursday when they agreed to a one-year deal with sharpshooter Landry Shamet. Now, the move has received praise from one of the Knicks’ most popular players.

Shamet spent last season with the Knicks, averaging 5.7 points per game and shooting 40 percent from three-point range in 50 appearances. In the aftermath of his return to the team, Josh Hart took to social media to congratulate Shamet.

Hart quote-tweeted a report of the deal on X, saying “YEA LAN!” The Knicks had been involved with several other free agents for that final roster, but ultimately landed on Shamet just weeks before training camp is set to begin.

Shamet will compete for the team’s final roster spot

Along with Shamet, the Knicks also signed Garrison Mathews and Malcolm Brogdon to non-guaranteed deals. Obviously, the Knicks can’t keep all of those players on the roster, so the trio of players will have to compete to earn that spot unless the Knicks make a significant trade to clear up space.

As of now, the Knicks boast one of the deepest rosters in the Eastern Conference. After reaching the conference finals for the first time since 2000, the Knicks will be looking to secure a championship next season as one of the favorites to come out of the east.
