Eagles’ injury report rules leading pass-catcher from opener out for Week 2 vs. Chiefs

The Philadelphia Eagles get an exciting Super Bowl rematch in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

But the Eagles will be at least a bit shorthanded.

Dallas Goedert has been ruled out after having a great Week 1 performance.

Goedert caught seven passes in the season-opening win over the Dallas Cowboys, the highest reception total for Philly. They went for just 47 yards, but he was solid in giving Jalen Hurts an easy target.

The tight end’s absence likely pushes Grant Calcaterra into a more crucial pass-catching role for the game that kicks off at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.

It also should force Hurts to look to his star wide receivers more.

Devonta Smith had three catches for 16 yards against the Cowboys. A.J. Brown had just one catch for eight yards, and that came on the Eagles’ final drive.

They don’t replace Goedert, but it’ll make sense for Hurts to look more on the perimeter without his trusty tight end out there.

There’ll still be plenty of opportunity for Hurts and Saquon Barkley to run behind the big Eagles offensive line, too.

The rematch should still be awesome.

But Goedert, who was also great in last year’s postseason, won’t be able to take part.
