Celtics projected to make another trade this offseason by NBA writer

The Boston Celtics have had quite a busy offseason. Despite numerous changes to the roster as the offseason has progressed, some think that the Celtics still have one more major move up their sleeve.

So far, the team has seen the departures of Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet, and Al Horford this offseason — all of whom played an important role in the team’s championship run in 2024.

Anfernee Simons could be on the move once again

Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix suggested that the Celtics could make another move this offseason in an effort to get under the luxury tax. In particular, he mentioned a possible move involving Anfernee Simons, who was traded to the Celtics from the Portland Trailblazers in exchange for Jrue Holiday.

“If they make one more move, it wouldn’t surprise me. Right now, they’re under the first apron. They’re almost under the tax,” Mannix said. “If they make one more move, if they can find anybody who will take the contract of Anfernee Simons…that will set them up for success in 2026 and beyond.”

Almost immediately upon his arrival in Boston, rumors began to swirl that Simons could be traded once again before the season began. Last season, Simons averaged 19.3 points per game, and if he remains in Boston, he’ll likely be a key component of the Celtics’ offense given the amount of departures they’ve seen, as well as Jayson Tatum being slated to miss the majority of the season with a torn achilles injury.
