Liverpool have bagged consecutive wins in all three of their Premier League matches so far, standing on top of the table with nine points.
The reigning league champions have made several notable signings in the summer transfer window, including Alexander Isak from Newcastle United and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, among others.
Despite their recent haul of notable signings, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has shared the opinion that the Reds might face some ‘regret’ on missing out on bringing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi to Anfield.
Guehi was set to make the move to Liverpool with the medical assessment completed on transfer deadline day after they agreed a reported £35 million fee (€40.5m/$47m) with Crystal Palace for the 25-year-old.
However, the deal fell through as Palace changed their decision over Guehi’s transfer after reportedly not having a replacement for the defender in place.
What did Jamie Carragher say about Liverpool missing out on signing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi?
While speaking on The Overlap Podcast, Carragher mentioned that even though Liverpool remain ‘big favourites’ to win the Premier League this season, the Reds’ failure to sign Guehi may cause issues in Arne Slot’s backline.

“Might they [Liverpool] regret that [missing out on Guehi]? Listen, they are three games in, nine points from nine and probably not played that well, so we would probably all say they are big favourites, Liverpool. But that is the one area [defence] where that could come back and blow up in their face because they haven’t really got that [cover],” as per GOAL.
“What Guehi was getting was giving Liverpool competition at centre-back. They haven’t really got that. They’ve got two starters and two understudies. Joe Gomez, injury-prone himself, and the young lad from Italy [Giovanni Leoni], he is going to be a great prospect, but if you think if one of them had to play for a couple of months, it is a big difference.”
Following the recent international break, Liverpool are set to return to Premier League action, where they will face Burnley next on September 14 with hopes of extending their winning streak at Turf Moor.
