Packers’ Jayden Reed gets troubling injury update after leaving Week 2 early

Week 2 of the NFL season just started and the Green Bay Packers are the first team to pick up a second win.

The Packers welcomed the Washington Commanders to town for a Thursday Night Football matchup, and it was mostly a one-sided affair. The Packers ended up walking away with a 27-18 victory after outgaining the Commanders 404 to 230.

However, it wasn’t all positive for the Packers. On the team’s first drive of the game, Jordan Love attempted to hit Jayden Reed in the end zone for what would have been a long touchdown. Reed didn’t end up getting the catch, and he got hurt on the play.

Reed was slow to get up but he eventually made his way to the sideline. The team quickly ruled Reed out for the remainder of the game. but luckily for the Packers, they received enough contributions from the rest of the pass-catchers to still win the game.

The hope is that Reed’s injury isn’t serious, but one insider provided an ominous update. According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Reed’s right arm was in a sling as he stood on the sideline in the fourth quarter.

It’s a disappointing development for Reed, who was already dealing with a foot injury this week at practice.

If Reed misses extended time, that would be a big loss for the Packers. The speedy receiver led the Packers in catches and receiving yards last season when he caught 55 passes for 857 yards with six touchdowns. Reed also rushed 20 times for 163 yards and one score last season, showing his versatility.

In the Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions, Reed caught three passes for 45 yards and scored one touchdown. It looked like Reed was going to have another big game in Week 2 before the unfortunate injury ruined his night.

The next game on the docket for the Packers is against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3. It’s a good thing the Packers have started off 2-0 because four of their next five games are on the road.

If Reed ends up missing time, rookie Matthew Golden could end up taking a larger role. Dontayvion Wicks and Malik Heath could also take up larger roles as well.

Without Reed on Thursday night, tight end Tucker Kraft ended up being the star, catching six passes for 124 yards and one touchdown. Love ended the game completing 19-of-31 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns.
