The Pittsburgh Steelers escaped New York with a close win over the Jets in Aaron Rodgers’ first game at MetLife Stadium since playing for the organization. Heading into the season, there was speculation about whether Rodgers would be ready to perform, but it quickly became clear he had been doing some impressive work and is in the best shape of his life.
“I can say here — and I think I’m 100 percent right — [Rodgers] is in the best shape and changed his body a little bit to fit who he really is,” said Super Bowl champion Phil Simms.
In a recent interview with the media, Rodgers made it clear just how special wide receiver DK Metcalf is during this new era of the NFL.
“He’s about the right stuff. He cares about it enough to watch the film and put in the time and take notes and ask questions and come over and sit next to me during the week … that’s unfortunately not the standard around the league,” Rodgers told the media.
However, in the same interview, Rodgers revealed concerns about an issue he endured during the game against the Jets. He was apparently dealing with some back tightness, which forced him to take a sack or two.
“I might be old, but I still feel like I can move around pretty good, and I wasn’t moving the way I usually like to move,” Rodgers said.

Hopefully, the tightness was just a brief flare-up on Sunday morning and won’t become a problem throughout the season. After Rodgers, the Steelers don’t have a proven quarterback behind him.
If Rodgers’ back tightness continues or worsens, it would be the worst-case scenario for the veteran. The Steelers knew this was a risk given Rodgers’ age, but they wanted him in Pittsburgh.
