As the Montreal Canadiens gear up to make a potential big move in the future following the Carey Price contract dump, one player the club has been connected to recently is none other than Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby.
Via insider Pierre LeBrun, Montreal is one of 2 teams that have been heavily linked to 87 as speculation persists over his long term future in Pittsburgh. Colorado is the other team LeBrun referenced due to Crosby’s ties with Nova Scotia partner Nathan MacKinnon. The ball is in Crosby and his agent Pat Brisson’s court in regards to what occurs.
Caleb Kerney of Heavy Sports has proposed a mock trade amidst these reports that would send Crosby to Montreal in a possible all timer of a blockbuster move that would reshape the NHL world.

Pittsburgh acquires: Patrik Laine, Kirby Dach, Owen Beck, 2026 1st rounder, 2027 2nd rounder
Why would Montreal make this trade
The Canadiens lack the needed center strength up front to be yet be taken seriously as contenders at this stage of their window. What quicker and better way to solve said problem by going out and landing one of the best hockey players of all time. That would give Montreal a nasty 1-2 center bunch of Crosby and Nick Suzuki in the top 6. And despite being 39 years old, Sid the Kid is aging like a fine way still producing over 90 points a season. He may still have a long time left in this league, despite his age. The package may be a lot for Montreal to give up, but inserting Crosby in the fold could be the difference between being a playoff hopeful and Stanley Cup contender.
For Pittsburgh, it is hard to imagine them receiving a larger haul than this in return. Laine at 27 year old will be entering what should be the prime of his career and could still figure it out. Kirby Dach has the potential to be a solid 2nd line center of the future for them. And they get a load of future’s assets with a solid prospect in Owen Beck and a couple top draft picks. Giving up Crosby would be a difficult decision, but it is hard to pass up a package like this.
This would be a shocking trade that would blow the minds of hockey enthusiasts across the world. It would be great for the game to watch Crosby end his career trying to win 1 more championship at the historic NHL hotbed of Montreal.
