Preparations are well underway for the 2025 edition of the Laver Cup.
This year, the planet’s best tennis players will head to San Francisco’s Chase Center for an action-packed weekend.
Unlike traditional tournaments, competitors are not just picked based on ATP rankings alone.
Here’s how the selection process works.
How do players qualify for the Laver Cup?
A total of 12 players – six per team – will compete in the Laver Cup this year.
Six spots were automatically awarded to the three highest-ranked players on each team the day after the Roland-Garros men’s singles final.
The remaining six slots are ‘captain’s picks’, which were decided before the start of the US Open.
For 2025, the captains are Yannick Noah (Europe) and Andre Agassi (World).
2025 Laver Cup team rosters
This year, each Laver Cup roster will comprise six players.
Here’s how the two teams currently stack up:
Team World

Taylor Fritz (U.S.) | 5th |
Frances Tiafoe (U.S.) | 6th |
Francisco Cerundolo (Argentina) | 3rd |
Alex Michelsen (U.S.) | 1st |
Joao Fonseca (Brazil) | 1st |
Reilly Opelka (U.S.) | 2nd |

Player lineups were updated following the withdrawals of Ben Shelton and Tommy Paul (both on Team World) due to injury.

It will take place a little under a fortnight following the conclusion of the US Open.
