The New York Giants has had one of the worst offenses in the NFL over the last two seasons. Many fans were thinking that quarterback Daniel Jones was the problem with the Giants over the last couple of seasons, but it appeared as if that is not the case.
Jones balled out for the Indianapolis Colts, but Russell Wilson struggled in a 21-6 loss for the Giants against the Washington Commanders. With Wilson struggling, it appears as if the problems on the offense for this football team run deeper than the quarterback. If Jones was able to ball out with the Colts and Wilson struggles, is it the head coach? Is it the scheme? Is it the offensive line? Well, this is not a good look for general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. The clock is already ticking.
NFL Insider Believes That New York Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll Is Already on the Hot Seat
Fox Sports NFL insider Ralph Vacchiano believes that time is going to be running out fast on the Giants head coach after another bad offensive performance against the Commanders. Vacchiano said about Daboll potentially being on the hot seat,
“This was supposed to be the year his offensive genius finally came through. He got a quality, veteran quarterback in Russell Wilson. The Giants strengthened the line, they had weapons, they even had a defense to help out. They were sure they had built a team capable of competitive football and at least competent offense.
But this was the opposite of all that. Instead, the offense looked so oddly familiar in their 21-6 loss to the Commanders. The Giants had just 231 yards in the game and didn’t get into the end zone. Wilson was a very unimpressive 17-of-37 for 168 yards, while running eight times for a team-high 44 yards. He had no chemistry with No. 1 receiver Malik Nabers, who caught 5 of 12 targets for 71 yards. The Giants’ running backs ran 15 times for 30 yards.
In Year 4 of Daboll, with an 18-33-1 record and coming off a 3-14 season, they are out of excuses, and so is he. If he can’t fix this offense soon, he might not make it to the end of the year.“
Daboll did not commit to Russell Wilson being the Week 2 starter for New York on the road against the Dallas Cowboys. With the Giants starting 0-1 once again, they have to avoid another 0-2 start. This might be the chance for Daboll to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart in Week 2 against Dallas.
If the Giants go to Dart this early, this is the last chance for Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. They traded up in the 2025 NFL Draft to select the former Ole Miss Rebels quarterback. If Dart shows potential for this football team, then there is a chance that Daboll and Schoen could potentially see a fifth year.
However, if Dart cannot perform behind this horrendous offensive line, then there is a world where Schoen and Daboll are both fired after the 2025 NFL season. The Giants would then look for a new head coach and general manager once again. It would also mean that Dart did not pan out and that the new regime would be looking for its own franchise quarterback. Daboll was supposed to be an offensive genius, but it appears as if his teams have no idea how to score a touchdown and that’s why he is on the hot seat.
