Warriors urged to trade Jonathan Kuminga to West rival for rising star forward

The Golden State Warriors have been in an interesting spot all summer, but there might be a perfect answer to their problems.

Over the past few months, nothing has really happened in Golden State. As free agency has come and gone for many teams, the Warriors are still awaiting their big moves.

Of course, the reason Golden State is still waiting on its big splashes is the restricted free agency of Jonathan Kuminga. The 2021 lottery pick has been in and out of Steve Kerr’s rotations since arriving, but he might be able to find a new home soon in a move that benefits both him and the Warriors.

Trey Murphy to Golden State?

This summer, the Warriors have reportedly had interest in Trey Murphy III, but the New Orleans Pelicans have been unwilling to engage in any talks. However, there might be a reason for those talks to open at some point.

As suggested by Warriors on SI’s Liam Willerup, the Warriors would want Murphy for obvious reasons. He is a solid defender who has shown the ability to be a perfect role player at forward and even take on an expanded offensive role.

Given Golden State’s age and injury concerns, adding in a young star like Murphy, who can thrive with or without the ball, would be massive. Assuming Kuminga eventually takes the two-year, $45 million offer, Murphy would be a perfect trade target.

While it might take more than just Kuminga to land Murphy in Chase Center, it could be well worth the price.
