The Saints entered the 2025 season with, well, low expectations.
With the No. 1 pick a more likely goal for New Orleans than playoff contention, the most exciting development of the preseason for the franchise was arguably the introduction of a new alternate uniform to be worn in Week 1 and at other points during the season.
It’s the first time the Saints have worn gold jerseys since 2002, and viewers largely believe that drought should still be ongoing.
Here’s a look at the Saints’ new alternate uniforms and how fans are reacting.

Saints new uniforms, explained
The Saints harkened back to 2002 with a return of their gold alternate jersey, which previously only made an appearance in a loss to the Vikings 23 years ago.
The uniforms are a “modern twist on the original look, honoring the team’s history while ushering in a new chapter for the franchise,” the Saints said when revealing the new look.
While the Saints have a popular black and gold aesthetic, these uniforms take a much different approach than the franchise’s typical black or white look — and the team decided to break them out for their season-opener against the Cardinals.

Once the uniforms were seen on-screen, reviews were mixed at best. The jerseys were brighter on the broadcast than they were in pictures, almost appearing yellow rather than gold because of how light-colored they are.

Fans and pundits largely did not approve of the uniforms, with Fox Sports broadcaster Tim Brando comparing the set to the yellow jerseys of the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas. Others compared the uniforms to college jerseys.
First @NFL Sunday and first thing I notice? @Saints look like the @XFLBrahmas and no disrespect intended but the Saints uni’s were imo ons of the greatest assets of the organization. The loss of those golden helmets and paints to match just splashed on the screen! They’re playing…

The Saints have not released a schedule for when the uniform will be worn after Week 1 this season.
