Mets could reportedly poach Yankees 30 home run slugger in free agency

Allowing really good players to walk is something the New York Yankees and other teams around Major League Baseball never want to deal with. However, there are instances where it makes sense.

For Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham, if New York believes that’s the route it wants to take, it could impact him.

Despite the reality of some prospects having to come up and the Yankees’ outfield being somewhat set if they decide to move on from Grisham, doing so doesn’t make much sense.

Could Trent Grisham head to Mets?

Allowing a hitter who is hitting .247 with 30 home runs and 64 RBIs, while playing above-average defense, to walk, doesn’t help the Yankees get any closer to winning a World Series.

Despite that, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the New York Mets are a team to watch out for if the Yankees go with that route.

“Monster season changed his equation. Mets, Yankees, Orioles, Giants,” Heyman wrote.

Grisham also brings a different type of passion and fire to the Yankees that some other players on the roster lack.

It seems like every night, he’s ready to play.

For Joel Sherman, that’s something he thinks the Yankees have to keep in the back of their minds. He loves the way he plays, adding that he could be someone who helps them win a World Series because he doesn’t blink under pressure.

“You know, it’s like their numbers clearly stand up to Kyle Tucker, who would’ve cost them Luis Gil in a trade. Grisham is the kind of player, he’s a Yankee in a lot of ways. He is really talented. There’s a smoothness, obviously, to his game. He is not one of those guys who blinks under pressure. We saw that, right? He played great against the Mets as a Padre in their playoff series a couple of years ago,” he said.
