Joe Alt was spotless, perfect, immaculate, impeccable, pick an adjective.
The Los Angeles Chargers’ superstar left tackle – well, as much of a superstar as an offensive lineman can be – couldn’t be beaten by the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
And because Alt was unbeatable, Justin Herbert had all the time in the world, and the Chargers had a Week 1 win.
These were Alt’s stats, courtesy of analyst Ryan Fowler:
- 0 sacks allowed
- 0 hurries allowed
- 0 QB hits allowed
- 0 pressures allowed
Alt played 43 snaps in pass protection and was never once bothered.

It’s exactly the player the Chargers hoped they were getting in the 2024 NFL Draft.
They took Alt at No. 5 overall out of Notre Dame.
He’s 6-foot-8 and 322 pounds of impressive ability.
As a rookie, Alt played in 16 games, starting all 16 of them. He finished seventh in the voting for AP Offensive Rookie of the Year.
At this rate, he’ll likely be a perennial Pro Bowler. Alt is special.
And in the Southern Hemisphere on Friday night, Alt was perfect.
