New York Mets all-time home run leader, Pete Alonso, has another major decision on the horizon. After spending seven seasons with the club, he is expected to opt out of the second year of his two-year, $54 million deal he signed ahead of the season.
Alonso has been a key factor for the Mets’ success this season. He has started all 140 games this season, hitting .271/.349/.524 with 35 doubles, 33 home runs, and 113 runs batted in.
MLB insider Jon Heyman listed some potential fits for the five-time All-Star in his latest piece with the New York Post. In it, he points to the Seattle Mariners as being one of the teams to watch out for.
Seattle has a lot of the pieces to be a contending club, but is missing a bat or two. They currently find themselves second in the American League West, but have been held back by their poor record on the road.
Alonso would be a great fit here if both sides could come to terms. He would be another fear-inspiring hitter alongside Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez and could help Seattle be a true contender.
Seattle is not the only club linked to Pete Alonso
The Mariners are not the only team that Jon Heyman discussed in his article. He also pointed to a few other teams as potential fits for Pete Alonso.
He views the New York Yankees as a potential fit, alongside the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and the Boston Red Sox. It could turn into a bidding war if Alonso goes on to opt out of his contract and head to free agency.
