Daniel Dubois set for imminent ring return

Former IBF world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) has already planned his comeback fight after defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in July.

The south Londoner was knocked out in five rounds by the two-time undisputed heavyweight champion at Wembley Stadium, losing his IBF world title in the process.

Despite the devastating defeat, stopped four rounds quicker than when they first met in 2023 in Poland, the 27-year-old British heavyweight is eager to get back to business as soon as possible.

On a Queensberry Promotions Instagram story, Dubois was asked, “So Daniel, you’re in the office for a meeting, is there some fight news coming soon?”

Flanked by advisor Sam Jones and Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren, the young heavyweight replied, “Yeah, big news announcing soon, so, you know, I’ll let these guys talk about it, but I’m gonna be well up for it. And I’m coming back!”

Long-term promoter Frank Warren, who has guided Dubois’ career since his pro debut in 2017, commented, “It was great to catch up with Daniel today, and we’re looking forward to the next chapter of his career. Watch out for big fight news soon!”

Fight fans have been debating over who the next opponent could be, with names such as David Adeleye, Joe Joyce, Martin Bakole mentioned, as well as promotional stablemate Tyson Fury and former rival Anthony Joshua.

However, Joseph Parker’s manager, Spencer Brown, has recently said in an interview with Boxing News that the Kiwi will defend his WBO Interim title before the end of the year to a “top-level English guy”.

Brown mentioned three names for Parker, “Whether it’s Dubois, whether it’s Fabio Wardley, there’s quite a few to choose from at the moment. But one of those top guys – it might be Derek Chisora, he’s got himself in a great place.”

Dubois is now ranked WBC #2 / IBF #9 / WBO #4 / IBO #2. Other heavyweights in and around his position in the rankings includes Derek Chisora, Efe Ajagba, Frank Sanchez, Michael Hunter, Lenier Pero, Nelson Hysa, Lawrence Okolie, Jared Anderson.

However, Queensberry labelling the impending fight news as “big business” suggests that the opponent could be bigger than a world-ranked contender and could potentially be a titleholder instead, such as an Interim champion like WBC’s Agit Kabayel, WBA’s Fabio Wardley, or the aforementioned WBO’s Joseph Parker.
