Rockets urged to add this veteran sharpshooter

The Houston Rockets revamped their roster this offseason. They shook up their core, trading away the likes of Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks to make way for Kevin Durant, Dorian Finney-Smith, Clint Capela and more. With Durant on the team, they have profiled themselves as a championship-caliber team.

They have filled 14 roster spots, giving them room to add one more. Several names have been discussed for the team’s need for a proven 3-point shooter off the bench. Veteran Malik Beasley, who was on his way to Detroit before a gambling allegation was made, is a top option, according to Sports Illustrated’s Killian Wright.

Beasley is coming off arguably one of his best seasons. He averaged 16.3 points per game and knocked down a career-high 41.6% from deep. As one of the NBA’s most lethal bench scorers and a Sixth Man of the Year contender, his sharp shooting was a key reason behind the Pistons breaking through to the playoffs.

While Beasley may not have a big role to play on this Rockets team but he will have an opportunity to impact and be part of a championship contender. He’d like to play alongside Durant, Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson since it would result in good looks from beyond the arc.

However, the Rockets could also look to fill the 15th spot internally, elevating Cameron Matthews from an Exhibit 10 contract. Therefore, Beasley might not feel like a priority at the moment, but if signed to a contract, the Rockets will be in good position to make a good run next season.

Beasley might have to sign minimum wage deal

Malik Beasley and the Pistons were finalizing a three-year, $42 million deal before the cloud of an FBI sports gambling investigation surrounded him. The contract talks were halted and the deal is reportedly no longer in place.

At this point in the offseason, most teams have used up their cap space, leaving Beasley to potentially sign another minimum contract.
