49ers’ Jauan Jennings gets crucial injury update as Week 1 vs. Seahawks looms

Jauan Jennings wants a new contract, but that wasn’t the most pressing concern this week for the San Francisco 49ers.

They simply wanted him healthy.

It appears he is, at least better than he was. Because on Monday, Jennings was back on the practice field, according to Pro Football Talk.

A calf has kept Jennings on the sideline for much of the summer.

Reports had already emerged that Jennings had a good chance to play against the Seattle Seahawks in the Week 1 matchup on Sunday, and it seems likely now that that’ll happen.

The first official injury report will be released by the 49ers on Wednesday.

Jennings had asked for a trade earlier this season, and he wants a raise, but neither of those things seem like they’re forthcoming. His return to the practice field seems to suggest he’ll play even without those things happening.

He’s coming off a career year, with 77 catches for 975 yards and six TDs while spending a large portion of the year as WR1.

The 49ers are down Brandon Aiyuk in the early going due to injury. It’ll be up to Jennings and Ricky Pearsall to provide the perimeter presence for Brock Purdy.

If Jennings can get back out there, he’ll also have the chance to start proving just how much he might be worth to the 49ers.
