The Houston Astros will look to snap their two-game losing streak as they finish their series with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday.
The Astros remain atop the AL West, but August has been far from their best stretch. Since the trade deadline passed in late July, they’ve gone 13-15. Their own play hasn’t been the reason for keeping their top spot, because the Seattle Mariners have run into their own rough patch, losing 11 of their last 17 games to end August.
Hopefully, things will slowly get back rolling for the Astros as they welcome another pitcher back from the injured list on Monday.
Luis Garcia to return from injured list, make first start since 2023
As the regular season looks towards the last month of the regular season, the Astros were given some fortunate news on starting pitcher Luis Garcia.
“Luis Garcia will be activated from the IL tomorrow to start the series finale against the Angels. It will be his first start since May 1, 2023,” said MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart.

The 28-year-old right-handed pitcher will narrow down Houston’s large list of injured pitchers and return for his first start since having Tommy John surgery in May of 2023.
Garcia’s long recovery from the surgery was due to the setbacks he’s suffered from, resulting in sitting out of the entire 2024 season and 2025 leading up to this point.
In the 69 starts Garcia made leading up to his injury, he has a 28-19 record, 3.53 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 364 strikeouts over 352 innings.
