76ers role-player shining in EuroBasket

In today’s EuroBasket competition, Turkey improved to 4-0, defeating Estonia by a final score of 84-64. Alperen Sengun led the way for Turkey as usual, putting together another great performance. Sengun however, wasn’t the only contributor, as Philadelphia 76ers rotation player Adem Bona reached double figures as well.

In 17 minutes today for Turkey, Bona scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds. 12 points doubled Bona’s previous EuroBasket high of six earlier in the tournament against the Czech Republic. Although these aren’t All-Star numbers, Philadelphia fans should be excited for the development of their young center.

In 58 games for the 76ers last year as a rookie, Bona averaged 5.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and an impressive 1.2 blocks per game. Bona’s Player Efficiency Rating of 16.5 was also a great tally for his rookie season. Among players with at least 30 games played last season, Bona ranked fourth in field-goal percentage, shooting 70.3%.

At just 22 years of age, Bona has plenty of upside for Philadelphia. Learning behind veteran centers Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond, Bona has plenty of knowledge at his disposal. Not to mention, Turkish teammate Alperen Sengun who led the Rockets to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference last season.

Bona will be in action once more for Turkey on Wednesday where they’ll take on Nikola Jokic and Serbia who are also undefeated. With both teams undefeated through their first four matchups, the No.1 seed in Group A will be at stake line in the final game of group play.
