Newcastle agree terms with Brentford to sign Yoane Wissa

Newcastle United have reportedly reached an agreement with Brentford to bring Yoane Wissa to St James’ Park.

This news comes after Newcastle lost their talisman, Alexander Isak, to Liverpool for a British transfer record fee of £125m. The Magpies had two of the previous offers for Wissa rejected by Brentford this summer.

Brentford were reportedly unwilling to part ways with Wissa, who recently issued a statement on his official Instagram account claiming the Bees are ‘unduly standing’ in his way ‘despite a series of fair offers throughout the summer.’

Despite making a club record signing of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart on a six-year contract last week, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has been looking to bolster his attack line, making Wissa’s arrival a relief for the Magpies.

What are the terms of Brentford star Yoane Wissa’s deal at Newcastle?

Reports have suggested that Brentford were open to negotiating terms with Newcastle over Wissa in the past, but the Bees prioritized their valuation being met.

Now, Newcastle and Brentford have verbally agreed terms over Wissa’s deal, which is worth £55m (initial £50m plus £5m in add-ons), according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer expert’s report also mentioned that after Brentford accepted the formal proposal from Newcastle, Wissa is on his way to undergo his medical assessment for the Magpies later today.

Wissa marks to be Brentford’s second significant departure this transfer window after Bryan Mbeumo made the move to Manchester United for a reported initial £65m.

With the official announcement from either club and/or expected soon, Wissa is set to take his leave from Brentford after recording 49 goals and 13 assists in 149 games over four years.
