Former Golden State guard and NBA fan favorite announces retirement

Former Golden State Warriors guard Jeremy Lin called it a career on Saturday, announcing his retirement in a post made on Instagram.

Before Lin took the NBA by storm in 2012 with his famous “Linsanity” run with the New York Knicks, Lin was a member of the Warriors. Lin was undrafted out of Harvard in 2010, and appeared in 29 games for Golden State during the 2010-11 season, averaging 2.6 points and 1.4 assists per game in just 9.8 minutes of action per night. Lin was waived in December 2011, shortly before the lockout-shortened season began.

After being waived, with his future uncertain he signed with the Knicks, where “Linsanity” was born. In February of 2012, he averaged 20.9 points, and 8.4 assists per game while leading the Knicks to a 10-4 record in that span, including a game-winning three against the Toronto Raptors.

Lin officially retired from basketball on Saturday

Lin would play for six more teams across a nearly decade-long NBA career until 2019, and is now officially retiring from the game of basketball.

“As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far away,” Lin said in his Instagram post. “I’ve spent my 15 year career knowing that one day I would have to walk away, and yet actually saying goodbye to basketball today has been the hardest decision l’ve ever made.”

“I’ve lived out my wildest childhood dreams to play in front of fans all around the world. I will forever be the kid who felt fully alive everytime I touched a basketball,” he added.
