Shortstop is one of those glamour positions in Major League Baseball.
When there’s a special shortstop, he’s hard to take your eyes off of.
Right now, there are a ton of brilliant shortstops in baseball, and three of them are on incredible runs.
The Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette, the Mets’ Francisco Lindor and the Phillies’ Trea Turner are in the midst of great performances.
In August, that trio each has at least 40 hits, 20 runs and 15 RBI.
It’s the first time three primary shortstops have done that since July 1956, according to OptaStats.
The trio in 1956 was Ernie Banks, Alvin Dark and Harvey Kuenn.
The three eastern divisional contenders are crucial for their squads.
The Phillies and Mets have been doing battle in the NL East, while Bichette’s return to form has helped the Blue Jays storm to the AL East lead.
Bichette has raised his season average to .308 with this run. Lindor has 26 homers and 76 RBI. Turner is hitting .300 and has stolen 34 bases.
These teams will be hoping their shortstops haven’t used it all up too early.
There’s still work to be done in September and hopefully October for these prolific shortstops. But right now, they’re on absolute fire.
