Skills coach hails Elias Pettersson’s offseason ahead of crucial campaign

Elias Pettersson and the Vancouver Canucks are looking to move past the 2024-25 season. It was a drama-filled mess from the start, and neither the team nor the player was able to get things back on track before all was said and done.

For Pettersson, the 2025-26 season is an opportunity to remind the world why he was given an eight-year, $92.8 million contract extension to be the face of the franchise in Vancouver.

In order to bounce back, Pettersson had to have a strong offseason of training, preparing himself to enter camp in better shape, and according to Swedish skills coach Daniel Broberg, that’s exactly what the Canucks star center did.

Broberg recently shared a post on Instagram raving about the work Pettersson put in during their summer sessions.

“This summer has been awesome! Elias is stronger physically than ever before, but above all there is now a balance between his physical and technical skill set. One of the strongest memories from our summer together is when his hip and upper body “clicked.” With that, so many pieces fell into place. He takes on speed and power with smoothness. His flow is on!” Broberg wrote.

The 26-year-old had the worst season of his NHL career in 2024-25, producing just 45 points (15 goals, 30 assists) in 64 games.

Pettersson is poised to rebound in 2025-26

Elias Pettersson has done everything right this offseason to regain his four-time all-star form.

Not only does it appear that he’s put in the work physically, but his comments throughout the summer sound like a guy in a much better space mentally as well.

While last year was a disaster, we shouldn’t forget that Pettersson piled up 89 and 102 points in the two prior seasons, so don’t be surprised to see his production jump back into that range again in 2025-26.
