The St. Louis Cardinals are continuing to see their playoff hopes drain away as there’s just over a month left of the MLB’s regular season.
St. Louis is currently 18 games behind the MLB’s best, the Milwaukee Brewers, in the NL Central and has dropped multiple positions in the Wild Card race. The Cardinals are now 7.5 games behind the New York Mets for the final spot.
The team has turned towards younger prospects in the latter half of the season, while president of baseball operations John Mozeliak prepares to pass the torch over to Chaim Bloom next season.
Cardinals’ Victor Scott could return as early as Monday
Injuries within the Cardinals’ batting lineup have been the problem recently, with a mix of Willson Contreras’ ejection fiasco, but the team was given some positive news on 24-year-old outfielder Victor Scott.
Since being placed on the 10-day injured list on Aug. 17 with a sprained left ankle, Scott has slowly amping up his rehab. A return can be as early as Monday.
“Victor Scott (left ankle sprain) left for Springfield last night and he will go through a pregame workout routine with the Double-A club tonight, manager Oli Marmol said. Scott is scheduled to be in Springfield’s lineup on Friday. An MLB return could come on Monday,” John Denton of MLB.com reported.
In his first full year in the big leagues, Victor Scott has been able to avoid the injury bug until suffering an ankle sprain. While playing in 116 games this season, he has a .223 batting average, .311 on-base percentage, .312 slugging percentage, and a .623 OPS while hitting five home runs and 35 RBI.
