Joe Buck shares strong message amid Cardinals woeful attendance

The St. Louis Cardinals began a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium to start this week, and with both teams essentially out of the playoff race, Cardinals fans across St. Louis made it clear they did not want to support their team.

This now marks the third straight season of the once National League powerhouse being behind in the playoff race, and the team hasn’t made the playoffs since 2022.

In what was an exciting game on Monday, there was under 20,000 St. Louis fans in attendance, 17,645 to be exact, which was the lowest-paid attendance since Busch Stadium opened back in 2006.

Legendary broadcaster does not hold back in messaging

Joe Buck, whose father is legendary Cardinals broadcaster Jack Buck, took to X to voice his dismay at what the stadium looked like on Monday:

“DURING the game in Stl last night. Wow. Welcome back to the 70s,” Buck posted on X. “This is what it used to look like. I was there. Pre-Whitey [Herzog]. Buying shag carpet asap.”

“A major rebuild of roster and trust better be coming. One can only hope. It’s coming right? Buena suerte Chaim! Rooting for you.”

After the season is over, there will be a transition of power to Chaim Bloom as the president of baseball operations.

This 2025 season marks a low point for the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans. The average attendance this season is down nearly 7,000 from last. It could be because of the team’s lackluster starting pitcher, or mismanagement of the roster before the season, when the front office made no new additions, but it’s clear the fans are not happy with the product on the field. It will be up to Chaim Bloom to change that dismay, but he certainly has the track record of making wholesale changes during his time with the Boston Red Sox.
