Ramon Laureano has been a force to be reckoned with this season. He was on fire offensively with the Baltimore Orioles, and he has continued that presence at the plate with his new club, the San Diego Padres.
San Diego acquired Laureano ahead of the trade deadline to fill their hole in left field. He has done just that, playing in 25 games thus far, hitting .315/.370/.598 with two triples, four doubles, six home runs, and 20 runs batted in.
Laureano has been hitting in the seventh spot for San Diego, but was recently boosted into the two-hole on Wednesday. He has been a huge help here as San Diego looks to capture the National League West.
Being part of a contending team, Laureano has not changed his game or his philosophy. He is staying true to himself, via MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell.
“I’ve just continued to be myself. Same thing I’ve been doing in Baltimore.”
Ramon Laureano has $6 million team option next year
Ramon Laureano has been an excellent fit in San Diego thus far, and his chances of staying with the club beyond 2025 are increasing by the day. The Padres are expected to pick up his $6 million team option for next season, per Cassavell.
If that is to be true, this was an excellent trade acquisition by general manager A.J. Preller, who stayed busy during the deadline. He made a flurry of moves to help his club stay within striking distance in the NL West and a potential deep postseason run.
