Former Nuggets first-round pick Bones Hyland linked to Western Conference rival

Former Denver Nugget Bones Hyland, the No. 26 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, remains a free agent with just over a month left until training camp.

The 24-year-old combo guard has bounced around the league over his four-year career, playing one full season with the Nuggets before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in February 2023. The VCU product stayed with the Clippers until February of last season, when he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks and subsequently waived before signing a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Entering his fifth season in the league, Hyland is no longer eligible to sign a two-way deal. However, the Timberwolves still have interest in bringing back the promising young guard.

Bones Hyland could re-sign with Timberwolves

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Timberwolves remain interested in a reunion with Hyland and have the space to make it happen.

“Minnesota has two open spots and the Timberwolves, sources say, would like to have Bones Hyland back in the fold,” he wrote.

The ex-Nugget earned All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2021-22, when he averaged 10.1 points, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds across 19.0 minutes per game in 69 regular-season appearances.

He appeared in 42 regular-season games with Denver in 2022-23 before being traded to the Clippers, averaging 12.1 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds across 19.5 minutes per game during that span.

Since leaving Denver, however, Hyland has seen a steady decline in playing time. While he may not command a meaningful role with the Timberwolves in the 2025-26 campaign, he could serve as a useful depth option should injuries arise.
