The Kansas City Chiefs added some running back depth on Wednesday.
They did it by bringing back an old friend.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire has signed with Kansas City after spending last season and this summer with the New Orleans Saints. NFL insider Jordan Schultz broke the news on Wednesday.
Edwards-Helaire, often known more simply as CEH, was once a first-round pick by the Chiefs. They took him No. 32 overall in 2020.
CEH went on to win two Super Bowl rings in his time in Kansas City.

The Baton Rouge native and LSU star left the Chiefs after the 2023 season to join the Saints. But he was only healthy for two games, and he had 13 carries for 46 yards with New Orleans.
Edwards-Helaire was cut loose ahead of cutdown day, freeing him up to rejoin the Chiefs.
The 26-year old played four seasons in Kansas City before his departure. In that time, he appeared in 48 games, 32 of them starts.

Edwards-Helaire had 441 carries with the Chiefs for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns (4.2 yards per carry). He also caught 89 passes for 765 yards and seven TDs.
He joins a backfield of mostly familiar faces with Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco. The Chiefs also have new guy Elijah Mitchell from the 49ers, and a seventh-round rookie out of SMU, Brashard Smith.
It’s not clear yet if Kansas City can quite keep all those faces around, but Edwards-Helaire is a good addition who will know Andy Reid’s offense and what it’s like to play with Patrick Mahomes.
