Warriors reportedly interested in stealing free agent forward from West rival

The Golden State Warriors have been one of the quietest teams in the league this offseason, but they could make some noise soon.

While most teams have been done with their big free agency moves for nearly two months, the Warriors’ summer has been held up by the Jonathan Kuminga saga. Considering the Warriors have been one of the most interesting teams in the league in recent years, their lack of moves in the offseason has been rather strange.

Still, when the air clears and Kuminga’s situation for next season and potentially beyond is figured out, the Warriors will be looking to sign some key role players still on the market. While players such as Al Horford and Gary Payton II appear to simply be waiting to sign their names on the dotted line, another intriguing player might soon join Golden State.

Another impactful forward for the Warriors?

Recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Warriors’ target list now includes Cody Martin. Most recently playing with the Phoenix Suns last season, Martin could be an interesting piece for the Warriors’ bench.

Last season, Martin averaged 6.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 53 games, but his career mark of 30.8% from deep can make him a tough sell at times, particularly for a coach like Steve Kerr. Still, the Warriors might have reason to be interested in Martin.

Considering Golden State is built around an old star core, having as many players as possible to provide solid minutes in the regular season could be critical to keeping Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green fresh for the playoffs.
