Connor McDavid releases firm statement on Oilers contract extension talks

As the Connor McDavid contract looms in Edmonton, the Oilers star has recently delivered a firm statement on his future with the Canadian squad.

McDavid is currently in Calgary participating in Hockey Canada’s 2026 Olympic orientation camp as he prepares for Team Canada’s hopeful Gold Medal run this upcoming February in Milan.

As the NHL world continues to wait for the inevitable signing of McDavid’s next contract, he was asked by reporters where he and the Oilers are at in extension talks.

What is the latest on McDavid?

Via insider Chris Johnston, Connor McDavid stated in the press conference that he has “every intention of winning in Edmonton.”

McDavid did not provide any details in terms of a timeline for his Oilers contract extension, which won’t exactly calm the minds of Oilers fans. But he did make comments stating he is in no rush to get a deal done.

Insiders such as Elliotte Friedman have previously speculated that we will see a McDavid contract announcement when he gets back in Edmonton for training camp following the Canadian Olympic orientation camp. This statement from Connor suggests this may not be guaranteed to be the case. Perhaps McDavid decides not to sign a deal before the season and waits until next summer to make his decision.

In the meantime, the hockey universe will continue to wait on the most highly anticipated move in the game. McDavid himself appears locked in on this upcoming season and making the best of the final year of his current contract.
