Alexander Isak has been keen on making a move away from Newcastle United this transfer window, with Liverpool being the frontrunners to acquire the Swedish star’s signature.
Liverpool have reportedly submitted bids to bring Isak to Anfield, with the 25-year-old star making his feelings clear about his future at Newcastle on social media.
Liverpool and Newcastle faced each other in a Premier League match on August 25 at St. James’ Park, where the Reds bagged a 3-2 win. Following the clash, the Magpies’ head coach, Eddie Howe, addressed Isak’s situation, admitting that the star’s presence on the pitch would have helped their chances in the games.
However, the English manager also mentioned he has ‘no idea’ about Isak’s future at Newcastle as the transfer deadline on September 1 approaches.
Now, Premier League legend Peter Schmeichel has shared his thoughts on Isak’s potential transfer to Liverpool.
What did Peter Schmeichel say about Newcastle star Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool?
While speaking to Viaplay after Liverpool’s win over Newcastle, former Manchester United goalkeeper Schmeichel stated that the Magpies were ‘holding off’ on Isak’s potential move to Anfield until this match and would not ‘refuse’ the Reds’ record offer for the striker.

“I suspect that Newcastle have been holding off on this deal until this game is done. Could you imagine if he’d come in last week and scored three goals today, which he is capable of, that’s how good he is,” as per GOAL.
“Wait until tomorrow. I’m absolutely sure that tomorrow this deal will be done. It will be in the region of £135m, a record deal. There’s no way in this life that Newcastle can refuse that kind of money, no way.”
After their previous bid of £110m was rejected by Newcastle, Liverpool are reportedly planning on returning with an improved offer for Isak, whose current contract with the Magpies is valid until the summer of 2028.
