Former Premier League star tips Man United to ‘start winning pretty soon’

Manchester United were on the receiving end of a 1-1 draw against Fulham in their second Premier League match of the 2025/26 campaign on August 24 at Craven Cottage.

With their 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in their opening game in the top flight, the Red Devils are yet to bag their first win of the 2025/26 campaign.

Former Premier League star Alan Shearer believes that Man United need to ‘start winning pretty soon,’ to avoid the ‘pressure’ building up for Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Man United are pitted against newly promoted club Burnley in their next Premier League clash on August 30, at Old Trafford. Shearer mentioned that there’s ‘no doubt’ the Red Devils need to bag a victory in that game.

What did Alan Shearer say about Manchester United ahead of Premier League match against Burnley?

While speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer emphasized on the importance of Man United claiming their first win of the season, and said,

“They [United] are one of the teams that have to start winning pretty soon, otherwise the pressure will mount, hugely. There’s no doubt about it,” as per The Mirror.

“They’ve got Burnley next. That’s one of those games where you probably want it, but if you don’t win it then it really does mount the pressure. So they’ve got to win that one at home, there’s no doubt about it.”

Prior to their upcoming league clash, Man United are set to face Grimsby Town in the second round of the EFL Cup on August 27 at Blundell Park. Amorim & Co. will be looking for a win to continue their run in the domestic knockout competition, especially as the Red Devils are not playing any European football this season.
