Real Madrid eye teenage sensation to replace veteran midfielder

Real Madrid have been linked with multiple big-name midfielders throughout the transfer window.

The club is still looking to fill the hole that Toni Kroos left, and new reports suggest that Dani Ceballos could be on his way out of the club, as well.

Real have been linked with Adam Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo from the Premier League, but a cheaper option could be a better investment for Real.

Which young midfielder is Real Madrid interested in?

According to AS, Real are considering making a move for Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar.

The deal would cost somewhere between €25m and €30m, AS reported.

Real have shown an interest in Smit before, sending scouts to watch the youngster.

With Ceballos edging closer to a move away, a deal for Smit could be within Xabi Alonso’s best interest.

Wharton and Mainoo are both costly options, whereas Smit’s price tag is not nearly as high.

While Smit plays more as a central midfielder, at just 19 years old, he could be crafted to become a holding midfielder, which is the position Real are lacking.

Smit is not seen as a priority signing, but Alonso has already shown he trusts younger players, as evidenced by his faith in Franco Mastantuono.
