Cavaliers get abrupt, concerning injury update on key player

The Cavs had a disappointing early playoff exit in their 2024-25 NBA season, after a very successful regular season.

They were knocked out of the postseason, losing in five games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the four-seed Pacers.

They did make a couple of moves to tweak their roster this summer, putting themselves in a position to be an Eastern Conference contender once again, in the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Unfortunately, Cleveland will have to navigate some unforeseen circumstances to start the season, after news came out about an injury update regarding one of the franchise’s key players.

What player got a recent injury update?

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Cavs’ forward Max Strus sustained an injury that will keep him out for an extended period of time.

Charania reported, “Cleveland Cavaliers guard Max Strus underwent surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot sustained during recent offseason workout and will miss approximately 3 to 4 months.”

This is a big blow for Cleveland, as they won’t have one of their key rotational players until possibly the end of December.

Luckily, the Cavs have great depth, so it’s something they can work around, but Strus’ production will be missed for the first month or two of the regular season.

Strus averaged 25.5 minutes in the 2024-25 season, playing a key role for Cleveland in their 64-win season last year.

In 2024-25, Strus averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 38.6 3P%.
