As Anaheim Ducks forward Mason McTavish remains unsigned as his latest contract comes to an end, rumors persist over potential destinations for the young 22 year old if he and the Ducks are unable to come to an agreement.
The latest team connected to the former 2021 3rd overall pick that has been previously linked to the centerman is the Montreal Canadiens via insider David Pagnotta.
Pagnotta identified the Habs young talent pool as something that would be enticing for Anaheim to consider if they have to move on from the promising forward. The Canadiens have plenty of weapons available in the system for a potential future trade return.
Why does Montreal make sense for McTavish?
The Montreal Canadiens have been in the market for a true second line center over the offseason. Mason McTavish would fit the bill of exactly what they are looking for. The 6’1” 219 pound power forward is a versatile forward who is valuable on both sides of the ice. A 1-2 punch down the middle of Nick Suzuki and Mason McTavish would be a dangerous top 6 center combo for this rising Montreal squad.
While the Ducks would like to keep McTavish around for the long haul preferably, if the right trade package presents itself anything is possible. And the Canadiens are one of the few teams that have been attached to McTavish that appear to have the tools at their disposal to get a deal done. We’ll see what decision Anaheim makes on this front shortly.
