The Chicago Bulls will honor a former MVP when the team faces the Boston Celtics at the United Center on January 24. Derrick Rose will have his jersey number (#1) retired in Chicago.
The ceremony will be the fifth number to be retired by the Bulls, joining Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Jerry Sloan, and Bob Love.
A Chicago native, Rose was selected first in the 2008 NBA Draft. He won Rookie of the Year and became the youngest MVP in league history at 22. Rose led the Bulls to a 62-20 record during the 2010-2011 season and the Eastern Conference Finals, the first since Jordan led the team in 1997-1998.

Rose tore his ACL in his left knee during the 2011-2012 season. While he was never the same, Rose still produced for the Bulls before playing for the Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pistons, and Grizzlies. He retired in 2024, and just a year later, his number will head to the rafters.
