Desmond Watson reveals future NFL plans after Buccaneers cut decision

Desmond Watson’s first NFL home is no more.

But he doesn’t plan on giving up after getting cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Watson’s agent told the Associated Press, “He’s still working. Job’s not finished.”

Watson is one of the most high-profile undrafted free agents in recent memory,

Why?

Because at his Pro Day at Florida, he weighed in at 464 pounds.

The Bucs signed him after the draft, and he’s been with Tampa Bay all summer, although recently that was on the non-football injury/illness list, which prevented him from practicing or playing in the preseason.

The Buccaneers wanted him to drop an undisclosed amount of weight, what they termed “milestones.”

Reports at different points in the offseason indicated Watson was down to 450, 437 and 429, but it’s not clear which of those had real merit.

Any of those would still be the heaviest weight a player has ever gotten into an NFL regular season game with.

Apparently, Watson didn’t get wherever the Buccaneers wanted him to get to.

He’s on waivers now, but even if he clears them, Watson isn’t expected to return to the Bucs’ practice squad, per the Tampa Bay Times.

Another team will likely give the unique potential of Watson a shot.

But the Buccaneers gave him his first chance, and they didn’t like what they saw enough to keep Watson around.
