Cal Raleigh is in the middle of one of the greatest seasons we’ve ever seen from a catcher.
He’s been a home run machine in the batter’s box and proved during all-star weekend why he’s not just the best home run-hitting catcher in the MLB, but in the entire league.
Raleigh hit home run number 50 on Monday night against the Padres, creating some very impressive history along the way.
What records did Raleigh break/create with home run #50?
Raleigh is in his fifth season in the MLB and has already hit 16 more home runs this year than in his previous personal single-season best, which was 34 home runs in the 2024 season.
Even though he’s been one of the best hitters in the league this season, he’s also solidified his name on some all-time lists that make him more than just one of the best players in baseball right now.

To start, 50 home runs by a catcher had never been done until now by Raleigh, and not to mention, there’s still about a month left in the season to add to his total (via Fox Sports MLB).
Raleigh is also the first switch hitter with at least 20 home runs hits from both sides of the plate in the same season (via @JustBB_Media).
For Seattle, he’s moved up on the Mariners’ franchise home run list, with the second-most home runs by a player in a single season (via @PitchingNinja). Ken Griffey Jr. holds the record with two seasons of 56 home runs (1997 and 1998).
Raleigh is in insane company in this next historic stat, as he’s just the ninth player in MLB history to hit home run #50 before the end of August. The other players on that list include Roger Maris, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Luis Gonzalez, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge.
It’s safe to say that Raleigh is having an MVP-level season with a very bright future ahead, and is still on the younger side at just 28 years old.
