The Golden State Warriors have finally made a free agency move. It’s not the type of signing that many were hoping for. The Warriors signed the largely unknown Taevion Kinsey to a deal on Sunday. While this Warriors-Taevion Kinsey signing is pretty irrelevant to the Warriors’ championship aspirations, at least something is happening. Now, a new piece of NBA news has opened up a new Warriors free agent target.
One of the top available free agents, Malik Beasley, was thought to be headed for a major suspension.
Earlier this weekend, ESPN reported that that is no longer the case.
“Malik Beasley is no longer a target of the federal gambling investigation conducted by the Eastern District of New York, his attorneys, Steve Haney and Mike Schachter, told ESPN on Friday, potentially reopening free agency for one of the NBA’s top shooters.
Haney and Schachter told ESPN that they had extensive conversations and meetings with the Eastern District of New York and received determination on Beasley not being considered the target after allegations regarding gambling on NBA games and prop bets during the 2023-24 season.”
Now that Beasley is back on the free agent market, some are wondering where he might land. If Jonathan Kuminga ends up accepting the qualifying offer, the Warriors could actually have a bit of money to throw at Beasley.
It was expected that Beasley was going to re-sign with the Detroit Pistons. Now, after the whole investigation (and now non-investigation), some believe he could go elsewhere.
A Warriors-Malik Beasley signing could be a perfect fit for both sides. Beasley was one of the top three-point shooters last season. He could be even better with the spacing that Stephen Curry could provide him.
If Beasley decides that he wants to rehabilitate his name by contending for an NBA championship alongside three future Hall of Famers, there’s a possibility he could sign in Golden State.

To be sure, a Warriors-Malik Beasley signing would be a huge shock. Even if the Warriors have more money available with Kuminga signing the qualifying offer, other teams can offer him more. He would have to really want to play with Curry and Jimmy Butler for this pipe-dream to save the Warriors’ offseason.
