After acquiring guard Anfernee Simons in a June trade with the Portland Trail Blazers, the Boston Celtics have stuck to their offseason plan of cutting salary to stay below the NBA’s second luxury tax apron.
Boston has continued to do so with multiple moves, and the Celtics’ roster for the 2025-26 season will look a lot different compared to last season.
Jayson Tatum’s devastating injury derailed Boston’s chances of repeating as NBA champions, and possibly next season’s hopes too, while recovering from Achilles surgery. In response, general manager Brad Stevens moved to shed several high-priced players, including Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.
Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers show interest in Anfernee Simons
The upcoming season for the Celtics will look like it’ll be led by other players on the roster, including Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard, with Anfernee Simons looking to be moved.
Boston has expressed that they want to move Anfernee Simons once again, and multiple teams have shown interest in the 26-year-old guard.
Hoops Wire‘s Sam Amico reported on the situation, and he mentioned that the Philadelphia 76ers and the Denver Nuggets have shown interest in a trade for Anfernee Simons.
Simons has spent his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers before getting traded this summer. He’s proven that he can be a top scorer for a team in his last four years in Portland. Most recently, Simons averaged 19.3 points and 4.8 assists while shooting 42.6% from the field and 36.3% from the three-point line.
The Celtics guard could still start the season in Boston, but expect Simons to be moved before the NBA trade deadline, which is on February 6.
