The San Diego Padres have come out swinging this year. During a season where all eyes have been on the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Pads have kept within striking distance in the National League West all year long.
This club has been good all around this season. They rank seventh in terms of team batting average, consistently putting the ball in play and scoring runs when it matters. The pitching staff has also been doing its job, compiling a 3.54 ERA, the second-best across MLB.
The starting pitchers have pitched well, and the bullpen has been a formidable force. However, San Diego could add to the already impressive bullpen by calling up their No. 6 prospect, Bradgley Rodriguez, via Fansided..
“The 21-year-old Rodriguez made his MLB debut earlier this season and threw 1.2 scoreless innings. In 18 Triple-A appearances, he’s posted a 3.22 ERA and has struck out 31 batters in 22.1 innings of work to go along with only five walks. He’s been outstanding whenever he’s been able to take the mound, and there’s no reason to believe that trend won’t continue when he’s healthy.”
Bradgley Rodriguez could bring high velocity to the Padres’ bullpen
Bradgley Rodriguez has a clear goal when he steps on the mound, and that is to overpower the opposing hitter. He has been able to touch 101 mph with his fastball while sitting 96-99. His changeup is a great separating pitch from his fastball, while he also throws a tight slider.
The No. 6 prospect could pair nicely with Mason Miller, another high-velocity pitcher. He would be an excellent addition to the bullpen as the team continues to fight for an NL West championship.
