Yordan Alvarez shows progress in impressive Astros rehab assignment

The Houston Astros have continued to seek answers to their struggling August performances. After bringing in a haul in the days leading up to the MLB trade deadline, the Astros haven’t found the same success they had earlier in the season.

Injuries have played a major role in Houston’s recent struggles. The Astros continue to monitor several high-paid players on the injured list – including Josh Hader, Isaac Paredes, and most notably, Yordan Alvarez – as they push for the AL West title.

The Seattle Mariners have been pushing to dethrone the Astros for the top spot in the division, but while the Mariners are in a five-game losing streak entering Friday, Houston currently holds a two-game lead.

Yordan Alvarez impresses in minor league assignment

One hot topic within the Astros’ pursuit of the 2025 World Series title has been with Yordan Alvarez. The power-hitting 28-year-old has been out of the batting lineup since early May after fracturing his hand and suffering a setback in his recovery.

Alvarez “could rejoin the big club this weekend in Baltimore,” said CBS Sports, “though he’s more likely to be reinstated when the Astros return to Houston to face the Rockies on Monday.

In his two rehab starts he’s made so far, Alvarez has been impressive. The $115 million designated hitter, who has a .625 batting average in eight at-bats, has hit three doubles, drawn one walk, and has stolen a base in the two games he’s played this week.

Houston will look forward to getting Alvarez back in the lineup in the final stretch of the regular season while continuing their pursuit of the franchise’s third World Series title.
