As the Cleveland Browns head into cut week, things could not have gone any better for Dillon Gabriel. As the second-team quarterback, Gabriel went 12 of 19 for 129 yards, including a touchdown right before the half that concluded an 11-play, 86-yard drive in 1:38 to beat the halftime whistle.

Gabriel played a total of 26 plays, but only two drives, coming away with 10 total points for the offense. The Browns were forced to settle for a 28-yard field goal on Gabriel’s first drive after he took the team 70 yards.
Things couldn’t have gone much worse for Shedeur Sanders right after. He struggled to see the field, which led to being sacked five times, and he was only able to complete 3 of 6 passes for a total of 14 yards.

The biggest struggle was knowing when to throw the ball away. As frustration mounted, he attempted harder to make something of nothing, which led to a disastrous 24-yard loss in the third quarter.
To make things worse, Tyler Huntley replaced Sanders on the last drive of the game after giving up the lead, and Huntley took the team 46 yards in just over two minutes to set up a game-winning field goal. Huntley was with the same unit as Sanders and had no problems executing.
Has Gabriel earned the No. 2 spot on the depth chart for Week 1? Maybe. Will Andrew Berry hold on a little tighter to Kenny Pickett as another backup after seeing Sanders’ struggle and give him more time to develop? Definitely maybe after what we saw today.
