The Tigers are currently the best team in the American League with their 76-53 record. They have been a joy to watch and are in a great position to finish the regular season on the right foot, especially if they get some reinforcements back off the IL.
Matt Vierling is one of the players that Detroit has been missing. He was placed on the 15-day IL on August 10 with a left oblique strain. Another player the Tigers have been missing is Parker Meadows, who was placed on the IL on July 27 with a right quad strain.
Both have been working to get off the IL as we get closer to the end of the regular season. Manager A.J. Hinch provided an update on the duo via The Athletic’s Cody Stavenhagen.
“Parker’s ahead of Matt in terms of his overall activity in what he can handle from a workload standpoint,” said Hinch. “We’re still not cleared for full-speed running yet.”
Hinch details that Meadows is ahead of Vierling in what he can do, but has not been cleared to run full speed yet. As it sits, there are no rehab assignment dates set for either player.
Parker Meadows and Matt Vierling are not the only Tigers’ players hoping to return from the IL
The Tigers also have a couple of other players on the IL trying to return before the season comes to an end. One of the biggest players on this list is Alex Cobb. He has missed the entire season thus far while dealing with left hip issues.
Jose Urquidy is looking to return from his June 2024 Tommy John surgery. If he does return, he will likely be issued a bullpen role with the lack of time to get him stretched out as a starter.
