The 76ers are looking to rebound after a 24-58 finish last season — a campaign marred by injuries to several star players.
Following the injury-riddled season, the Sixers landed the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and selected Baylor standout V.J. Edgecombe. During his lone collegiate campaign, he averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game in 33 games.
Now, he’ll join a Sixers roster with the potential for a deep playoff run, provided the team avoids further setbacks from injuries.
Edgecombe’s two-way potential solidifies his top-20 ranking
Zach Harper of The Athletic recently released his list of the NBA’s 40 best shooting guards, ranking Edgecombe at No. 19.
“Tier 5 has four guys I really like and think could be star role players either next season or the season after,” Harper wrote. “… Edgecombe could be huge for Philly if the team stays healthy…”

Edgecombe landed three spots ahead of teammate Jared McCain in Harper’s ranking, though having both should form a crucial building block for Philadelphia alongside Tyrese Maxey in the coming years.
Edgecombe’s two-way star potential makes him an intriguing prospect for the future, and he could secure a starting role on the wing sooner rather than later. If given significant minutes, the 20-year-old may contend for Rookie of the Year honors alongside Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper, though their draft class is loaded with talent across the board.
With Joel Embiid, Paul George and McCain all coming off injury-shortened seasons, the 76ers may continue to navigate availability concerns. Despite that, Edgecombe is set to play a meaningful role and demonstrate why he was selected No. 3 overall.
