The Golden State Warriors are looking to make quite the splash move this offseason, and now a notorious rival has come up in trade talks.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Warriors have made several calls to the Los Angeles Lakers regarding superstar LeBron James. James recently opted into his player option for this season earlier in the offseason.
Of course, James has plenty of history with the Warriors as a rival. For four straight seasons from 2014-2018, James’ Cleveland Cavaliers and the Warriors squared off in the NBA Finals. The Warriors took three of those matchups in 2015, 2017, and 2018, with James leading the Cavaliers to the only 3-1 comeback in NBA Finals history in 2016.
James is still a premier NBA talent despite his advanced age
Golden State has been at a standstill with forward Jonathan Kuminga all offseason, which could explain why they have been so persistent in asking for LeBron James. Regardless, James is still an upper-tier talent in the NBA even at 40-years-old. Last season, James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game, being named an All-Star, and to the All-NBA Second Team.
James, and Warriors star Stephen Curry have shared the court occasionally in the past, most recently as members of Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
It would be quite the splash if James ended up with the team that he has such a historic rivalry with. Nearing the end of his career, teaming up with the squad that gave him some of his most memorable battles could be the ultimate full circle moment.
