Harry Maguire hints at signing new Man Utd contract

Manchester United were on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal in their first Premier League match of the season on August 17 at Old Trafford.

Despite not achieving ideal results in their league opener, Man United star Harry Maguire feels that the club are in a ‘good place.’ The English defender, who joined the Red Devils from Leicester City in 2019, mentioned that significant improvements have taken place since his arrival

“We’re in a good place, positive as a club and I feel like the hierarchy has come in and Jason [Wilcox, director of football] and the manager – they’re taking it in the right direction. Since I started six years ago to where it is now, it’s in a completely different place in terms of the structure behind the management staff,” as per The Guardian.

Maguire also spoke about his and Matthijs de Ligt’s role on the pitch and added,

“Me and Matthijs have been playing that central role, but also we can play either side in the back three. I’ve proven that. I’ve done that for England and Mattias has done that numerous times for the Netherlands as well. There’s competition for places all over the pitch and that’s healthy in the squad.”

“I feel in a good place. It’s been a couple of years now where I feel like I’ve played really well for this club again.”

Maguire also hinted at further extending his stay at Old Trafford, as his current contract is now valid till next summer after Man United triggered a one-year extension in his deal in January.

What did Harry Maguire say about his future at Manchester United?

While speaking about his future at Man United, Maguire mentioned that he is sure that ‘a conversation’ with the club about a potential new deal will take place in the upcoming few months. The 32-year-old candidly admitted that he does not want to make his plans public while hailing the Red Devils as an ‘amazing club to play for.’

“I’m sure over the next few months we’ll have a conversation about where we want to go and if they want to extend. I have something in my mind about what I want to do. I don’t want to put it out there [publicly], but it’s an amazing club to play for and you’d be silly if you wanted to jump out of it as soon as you could.”

“I think there were a couple of clubs who enquired or spoke with them [the club] and I think they got a quick response.”

While it remains to be seen what lies in his future, Maguire and Man United are currently focused on their trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham next in the Premier League on August 24.
