The Blues’ Jordan Kyrou has been a name linked in trade rumors often this offseason as the forward has drawn interest throughout the NHL and for good reason. Kyrou has proven himself as a lethal top 6 forward for the Blues, having earned himself an 8 year contract with the club after the conclusion of the 2023 season. Nevertheless, trade speculation around the player has persisted.
The 27 year old forward is coming off his 3rd 70 point season with the Blues last year, having amassed 36 goals and 34 assists in the regular season. In the playoffs, he recorded 3 goals in the Blues 7 game series versus the Presidents trophy winning Winnipeg Jets.
Over the course of his 7 year career so far, the Toronto native has totaled 150 goals and 182 assists for 332 points in 416 regular season games. In his postseason career, he has registered 11 goals and 2 assists for 13 points in 28 games.
Which team(s) have been linked to Kyrou?
The Blues had previously shown interest in Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram this summer via Jeremy Rutherford before the promising young dman signed a contract extension, theoretically keeping him in Buffalo until 2027. However, likewise with Kyrou, a contract extension does not neccessarily put trade talks to rest.
According to Rutherford’s report, a phone call is always on the table. Could there be a potential Kyrou-Byram trade in the future between the Blues and Sabres? Or does another team enter the trade conversation and go after Kyrou’s services? Whatever trade proposals are sent the Blues way would have to be more than enticing enough for St. Louis to consider letting go of such a homegrown talent. Kyrou also carries a full no move clause at the moment, so whichever team calls calling would have to be approved by him.
Time will tell what happens on the Kyrou front. Until then, he will look to help his Blues squad return to the playoffs in this ever approaching 25-26 season.
