Stephen A. Smith makes bold prediction for Mavericks in 2025-26 season

Stephen A. Smith is not a name that is popular amongst Dallas sports fans, at least not Cowboys fans.

Whenever the Cowboys suffer a loss, you are sure to find a video on social media of a cackling Smith telling us all that he “told us so.”

However, the analyst does seem to have faith in one Dallas area sports team, the Mavericks.

Smith Claimed That the Mavericks Can “Win It All”

In Friday’s edition of the analyst’s First Take, Smith produced his A-List of top five players to watch during the season, which included Mavericks Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, and also included Luka Doncic.

Davis was ranked number one on the list, and Smith elaborated.

“Luka is gone because of this man,” Smith said, pointing to a hologram of Davis on his show. “Because this man is 28-12 when healthy.”

And after poking a small bit of fun at the former Kentucky Wildcat over his injury-proneness, he delivered his boldest statement of the morning.

“Together, when both (Davis and Irving) are healthy, with their A-game, I would pick the Dallas Mavericks to win the NBA championship. I’m gonna say it again. If Kyrie Irving is healthy, and Anthony Davis brings his A-game, the Dallas Mavericks will win the NBA championship. It’s a big “if,” but it’s legit, and everybody knows it.”

A big “if” indeed, given the injury history of Davis, but Smith may not be too far-fetched in his claim.

The Mavericks have done surprisingly well when Davis is healthy, and when Kyrie is at the top of his game, he is still able to play at a high level despite his older age.

Throw on 19-year-old Cooper Flagg and also Dereck Lively, and the Mavericks very well could be on their way to bringing championship number two to Dallas.
