Tigers’ No. 2 prospect exits Double-A game with apparent wrist injury

The Detroit Tigers’ No. 2 prospect, Max Clark, has been getting used to his new home with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves. The slugger was called up from High-A West Michigan last month and has now gotten 27 games under his belt, adjusting well to his new environment.

With the SeaWolves, Clark is hitting .274/.371/.481 with three triples, four doubles, four home runs, and 10 runs batted in. He has also shown his speed on the basepaths, stealing six bases on six attempts, and a call-up to Triple-A later this year seemed like a giant possibility.

However, fans are holding their breath on that thought right now. Clark was removed from Tuesday’s Double-A game after an apparent wrist injury. The prospect motioned over to the medical staff after swinging and missing on a pitch during the third inning, via Tigers ML Report.

The severity of the injury is currently unknown. Clark will undergo tests to assess the extent of the injury and determine a plan to return to the field as soon as possible.

Max Clark’s reaction similar to Kevin McGonigle’s hamate injury last season

Last year, the Tigers’ top prospect, Kevin McGonigle, exited a game in August after swinging and missing on a pitch. He immediately motioned for the trainers to come out and quickly pointed at his hand. It was later revealed that he had a right hamate fracture.

With the timing of the injury, McGonigle could not return to the field before the season’s end. If Clark’s injury is similar, it would be quite difficult for Clark to return before the season comes to a close.
